Computer failure causes chaos at airports and other services worldwide.

The outage has affected several airlines, causing delays at numerous airports around the world.

A global failure in the Microsoft system is causing problems in recent hours for numerous companies in the airline, financial, and media sectors, as well as companies like Amazon and Visa and police forces in many countries.

"We are aware of a problem affecting Windows devices due to an update from a third-party software platform," said a spokesperson for the computer company, who added that "the resolution is imminent."

It was a failure in the update from Microsoft Azure's cybersecurity company, Crowdstrike, that caused the global outage of Microsoft 365 services, leading to problems in numerous companies.

"This is not a security incident or a cyberattack," CrowdStrike clarified in a statement.

Airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines issued ground stops on Friday morning in the United States citing communication problems.

Due to issues with cloud services in the central region of the United States, the low-cost airline Frontier Airlines also reported the cancellation of several flights and a temporary suspension of operations last night due to problems with reservations, check-in, and access to boarding passes.

However, in the case of Frontier, the airline announced on social media X that its systems were gradually normalizing and that it was in the process of resuming flight operations.

Images show collapsed airports and frustrated travelers due to delays.

This is how it happens in Berlin.

In Barcelona.

And it extends even to Sydney, in Australia, according to a list released by international media.

From India, a passenger humorously boasted about his first handwritten boarding pass.

The ruling has also affected Aena and Repsol, Ryanair, and the London Stock Exchange, among others. This means that Spanish airports and those in other European countries have not escaped problems either.

Ryanair, one of the most popular low-cost airlines and one that generates the most traffic in Europe, warned its travelers about the situation.

Shared images from busy airports like Barcelona or Stansted in London bear witness to the complicated situation.

Failures in 911 and in media outlets in the United States

In the United States, the Alaska state police said in a Facebook update just before 2:20 a.m. that 911 and non-emergency phone numbers across the state were not working “due to a nationwide technological disruption.”

The outage has affected media outlets, including Telemundo and NBC News. The 5 a.m. newscasts of Telemundo experienced issues with their live broadcast. Sky News, the British broadcaster affiliated with NBC News, cannot broadcast live news.

Australian broadcasters also reported issues. The country's national cybersecurity coordinator, Michelle McGuinness, said on X that the problem did not appear to be the result of a cyber attack.

What does Microsoft say?

According to Downdetector, a website that monitors outages, since last night there have been sudden spikes in issues across various websites, including Microsoft applications.

The problems began to be detected in the United States and have been spreading to different parts of the world.

From Microsoft Azure, the cloud computing platform for managing applications and services, they have confirmed that issues were being recorded and that they were working on resolving them.

The tech giant assures that it is redirecting the affected traffic to alternative systems to alleviate this impact in a more convenient manner.

It has also reported that its services continue to see improvements while it continues to take mitigation measures.

According to the company, a configuration change in part of the workload of the Azure servers caused a disruption in storage and processing that affected Microsoft 365 services.

In this way, these connectivity issues can affect any user trying to use various applications and services from Microsoft 365.
