A Cuban youtuber has been surprised to discover that there are different areas in Mexico where she can enjoy free wifi and considers it an advancement of capitalism.
A video of Alita (@alitasworld) is circulating on social networks where the young woman recounts her first month of life in Mexico. It is a video from late 2023, but it has recently gone viral.
In the video, the Cuban woman appears excited about the fact that there is free internet in various parts of Mexico City (CDMX), from parks to stores like Starbucks.
"We can't stop talking about the free street wifi, Starbucks, the government building. It's incredible. These are the wonders of capitalism," he said, laughing.
Alita remembered what her life in Cuba was like and how difficult it was to have to go out into the streets to find better internet connectivity.
"When you remember having to stay up all night to upload a video to YouTube, it's incredible, but there you go, free wifi on the street. What more could I ask for?" the young woman commented.
She was also impressed by the diversity of public transportation in Mexico, as well as the existence of areas in the Metrobus that are exclusive for women.
Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, who has recently become the first woman elected president of Mexico, was the one that promoted the creation of free internet in Mexico City.
The project Internet for All was launched, with the aim of establishing thousands of free access points in public spaces such as parks, squares, health centers, and schools. This initiative is part of a larger effort to reduce the digital divide and promote technological inclusion in the city.
