A 15-year-old teenager died in the province of Guantánamo as a result of pneumonia worsened by dengue.

Several reports on social media claim that the incident occurred on Wednesday and that the victim, just 15 years old, was a neighbor on San Lino Street, between Emilio Giró and Carretera Central.

The young woman, whose name has not been released, had pneumonia and fell ill with dengue, which has spread in several Cuban territories due to the lack of resources for controlling the mosquito that transmits the disease.

At the beginning of the month, the National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Francisco Durán, acknowledged that the country does not have fuel to spray against mosquitoes, amid a growing presence of the Oropouche virus and dengue in Cuba.

Even some municipalities on the island, such as La Lisa in Havana, are under epidemiological alert due to dengue and febrile cases.

Doctor Dayana Ayala Esquivel, municipal health director, revealed to Tribuna de La Habana that the incidence rate in the territory exceeds the accumulated provincial average.
