At least twenty Cuban rafters were spotted aboard a homemade boat near Isla Mujeres, Mexico.

Local fishermen filmed the overloaded boat on Friday and wished good luck to the undocumented migrants on their journey.

Until Saturday morning, there was no more information about the current whereabouts of the Cubans, as there had been no reports of their arrival at any beach of the vacation destination the day before, explained the media Quintana Roo News on X.

The publication warns that the rafters were traveling in a fragile and overloaded homemade vessel, equipped with an adapted engine for propulsion.

The Cuban migration crisis has sent many immigrants on dangerous maritime routes that lead them to the Mexican coasts.

On Friday, the Isla Mujeres Police detained 11 Cuban rafters who were traveling in a public transport vehicle after having arrived in the country on an improvised boat.

The migrants disembarked after a dangerous sea journey and tried to enter the territory through the Punta Sam area, but they were intercepted at one of the local police checkpoints.

Undocumented immigrants are in police custody until their legal situation is resolved. It is likely that some of these Cubans will be deported to the island.
