Mexican authorities detained Cuban immigrants during two operations carried out in recent days in the municipality of Tizayuca, in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico.
Agents and officials from federal, state, and municipal agencies detected immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Colombia during inspections of local public transport vehicles, reported the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Tizayuca.
According to official reports cited by the press, last Friday around 10 migrants of Cuban, Venezuelan, and Colombian nationality were detained because they could not prove their legal entry and stay in that country.
Likewise, this Tuesday, the SSC of Tizayuca announced the detention of another group of undocumented individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, and Ecuador, in a second immigration operation.
All the migrants were transferred to the delegation of the National Institute of Migration (INM) in Pachuca de Soto, in order to verify their immigration status.
The reports have not specified the number of Cubans detained in these operations, which, according to the authorities, aim to "prevent and eradicate crime" and "safeguard the safety of citizens" in the municipality of Tizayuca, located north of Mexico City.
The operations involved officials from the Tizayuca Citizen Security Secretariat, the Hidalgo Public Security Secretariat, the National Guard, the National Defense Secretariat, and the INM.
News portals reported that during this month, at least three immigration operations have been carried out, in which around thirty undocumented foreigners have been detected, mainly from Central America and South America.
A similar migratory operation conducted at the end of June in Tizayuca detained Cubans who could not validate their legal stay in the country.
Also around that time, two families and six individuals, all of Cuban origin, were detained by INM authorities in the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli, in the State of Mexico.
In recent years, the flow of Cuban migrants to Mexico has increased, serving as a crucial point in their journey to reach the southern border of the United States and apply for asylum in that country. Currently, thousands of citizens from Cuba are waiting for their CBP One appointments in various Mexican states.
A total of 17,563 Cubans entered through the borders of the U.S. in June, according to statistics from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) office.
