The current Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, is gaining the support she needs for a nomination from the Democratic Party in preparation for the upcoming presidential elections in November, cultivating the largest base of delegates in the state of Florida.
Harris, who received the green light this Sunday from President Joe Biden, after withdrawing from the electoral race, has started off on the right foot in her quest for the nomination, and the leaders of her party have begun to support her.
On Sunday night, Harris already had the 300 delegates needed for the Democratic National Convention listed on the nomination ballot. The cap is 1,986 delegates for the nomination, according to the Democratic National Committee.
More than a thousand delegates have informed the AP agency or have already announced that they plan to support Harris in the internal contest to select the opponent of Republican Donald Trump for the presidency of the country.
Most of the Democratic delegates who expressed their support for the first woman vice president of the United States come from Florida (210), Pennsylvania (159), North Carolina (116), Maryland (95), Wisconsin (76), Tennessee (63), South Carolina (55), Kentucky (52), Louisiana (47), New York (41), Minnesota (36), Ohio (35), Nebraska (29), Massachusetts (27), New Hampshire (25), and Georgia (25), according to a report by Local 10 News.
Precisely, this Monday, Florida Democrats held a virtual press conference, where they expressed their support for Harris in the presidential race.
The meeting began with a thank you to President Joe Biden, who was described as brave and compassionate for putting the country first.
"I am extremely excited to support Vice President Harris, one of the most successful, experienced candidates with unmatched integrity that we have ever nominated for this great position," said Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Fentrice Driskell, state representative, assured that Kamala “is ready for battle” and listed a series of virtues of the current vice president.
"The dream of the Republicans is to sit back and watch us fight among ourselves and create chaos. But we don't have to show them the chaos," said state senator Shevrin Jones. "We can show them unity and strength."
The name of Harris has been, so far, the only one to receive support from the Democratic delegates.
