Young woman who passed away in Santiago de Cuba after being hit by a Girón bus is laid to rest

Family and friends bid farewell to the 32-year-old woman and mother of three small children.


The 32-year-old woman who passed away on Wednesday in Santiago de Cuba following a tragic accident in the city's historic center was farewell by her family and friends this Thursday.

Journalist Yosmany Mayeta shared an emotional video on Facebook in which the loved ones of Yanileidis Vázquez Quiala bid their final farewell to the young mother of three.

The video showed the victim's husband, who appeared visibly distressed and insisted on seeing his wife before she was buried.

Yanileidis was walking along the sidewalk of Heredia and Peralejo Streets when a Girón bus traveling through the area lost its brakes and crashed into an old building, which collapsed immediately as a result of the impact.

According to the testimony of witnesses reported by the mentioned communicator, the woman was buried under the rubble of the collapse.

"We had to dig to get her out from underneath the blocks, and it was already too late to take her to the hospital. She died instantly," revealed one of the people who assisted the victim.

At the time of the incident, the woman was accompanied by her husband, who did survive the tragic event and was in despair.

The firefighters and police quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance and carry out the necessary rescue efforts, but the victim died on the spot.

Mayeta stated that the bus involved in the accident is one that occasionally transports workers from the "Moncada" Cement Factory, located in the Abel Santamaría neighborhood.
