María Corina Machado on Cuba: "Very soon they will be like us, on the eve of Freedom."

The Venezuelan opposition figure left hopeful words for the Cubans in a message directed to the activist Rosa María Payá, promoter of the Cuba Decide movement.

The Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado, sent a message this Saturday to the Cuban activist Rosa María Payá Acevedo, in which she expressed her conviction in victory over chavismo this Sunday in the presidential elections, and her faith in an upcoming process of transition to democracy similar in Cuba.

"Dearest Rosa María: to you and to the entire Cuba Decide movement, I want to say that very soon I know Cuba will be like us, on the brink of Freedom. Lots of strength! I would have loved to have you here and embrace each other in Venezuela tomorrow, but I know that very soon we will welcome you in a liberated Venezuela. God bless you," said Machado in a video published on his social media.

For her part, the Cuban activist and promoter of the civic initiative Cuba Decide expressed her admiration for the Venezuelan people and for the leadership with which Machado has managed to unite all the opposition forces against the regime of Nicolás Maduro.

"With you, with your love and your courage for that Venezuela and that people who fill us all with admiration. That hug is going to reach from Caracas to Havana. With you on the eve of freedom and until the end," wrote Payá Acevedo on the social network X.

Hours before the opening of the polling stations, Machado used her social media to leave an emotional message for the Venezuelans.

"Dear Venezuelans, the day has arrived! We have been fighting for 25 years for this moment and the moment has come," wrote Corina, encouraging her followers to participate in presidential elections that could change the course of the South American nation, which has been under Chavismo for over two decades.

In that regard, Engineer Machado made three requests to the Venezuelan people to express unity throughout this electoral day: to play the national anthem "Gloria al bravo pueblo" at 5:00 a.m. from homes and cell phones, to connect at 1:00 p.m. to a live event via their social networks to maintain communication and coordination among voters, and to stay at the polling stations until 6:00 p.m. to ensure transparency in the counting process.

Machado insisted that the vote count is a citizen's right and encouraged the population to oversee the process "ticket by ticket" to ensure the integrity of the electoral outcome.

The political leader also called to ignore possible attempts by Maduro's regime to spread messages that could generate fear or confusion among voters.

"We will have lived an epic day. We will have built the historical achievement of our people. No one will have told us because each one of us will have been a protagonist of this story of freedom. It will then be time to celebrate. May God bless us!" he concluded.

At the end of October 2023, Machado thanked Payá Acevedo for his words after his victory in the Venezuelan opposition primaries.

“Hope has won in Venezuela, and we Cubans are with it! #UntilTheEnd. With all those people who went out to vote for her to get rid of the dictators in power,” said the Cuban activist.

Machado replied: “Dear Rosa María, you don’t know howMoved I am by your words. This victory and first step towards the defeat of tyranny is committed to contributing to the freedom of all peoples who are fighting for their democracy.”

However, fearful of the momentum of the leader of Vente Venezuela, the Supreme Court of that nation disqualified Machado as a candidate for the elections, which is why the opposition movement ended up choosing Edmundo González as the candidate who will face Maduro this Sunday.
