The ranking of the best beaches in the United States, according to the criteria of Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, known as Dr. Beach, includes three beaches from Florida among the best in the country in 2024.
This geoscientist and coastal ecologist, nicknamed Dr. Beach by his students at the University of Maryland, has dedicated his life to discovering the best beaches in the U.S. and advocating for coastal ecosystems.
The scientist's website publishes its list of the best beaches each year, following a scale based on 50 criteria, which include factors such as sand quality, the number of sunny days, and water cleanliness, among others.
The three Florida beaches that stand out in the list of the 10 best in the United States in 2024 are:
- Caladesi Island State ParkDunedin Clearwater, Florida: It ranks number 4 on Dr. Beach's list. It is famous for its soft white sands and crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming and kayaking.
- Delnor-Wiggins Pass State ParkNaples, Florida: This beach is ranked number 8. With its natural and calm surroundings, it is ideal for those looking to relax in a serene environment, surrounded by diverse flora and fauna.
- Ft. De Soto ParkSt. Petersburg, Florida: Located in the number 10 spot, it offers vast white sand beaches, perfect for a family day of sun and sea, as well as numerous recreational activities such as hiking and cycling.
