The birth of an albino alligator at Wild Florida Park has captured the attention of the public on social media. This is the third hatchling born in the species protection program supported by the institution.
Wild Florida announced the birth of the baby with sharp teeth on August 1. The proud parents are Snowflake and Blizzard, both albino alligators, who arrived at the park in 2017 from a center in St. Augustine.
The hatchling was in incubation for 60 days, in a climate-controlled room. The caregivers were able to record the moment it emerged from the shell and took its first steps in the hands of a team member.
"With the hard work and dedication of our Croc Squad team, we have achieved the hatching of a healthy albino baby alligator," Andrew Ayala commented to the press.
The small alligator exhibits a color between pinkish and yellowish due to its rare genetic variation. It will be displayed in the park within a month.
The albino genetics of these crocodiles makes them extremely rare and fragile, requiring special care to avoid sun damage.
Wild Florida, located in Kenansville, continues its conservation and education efforts with this new member.
