The family of a young man nicknamed El Tosco, who went fishing from the coast of Havana Del Este on Saturday night, is pleading for urgent help to find him.

The desperate plea from his wife, Thalia Zaldívar Domínguez, has been shared in several Facebook groups dedicated to fishing or by residents in the eastern neighborhoods of the Cuban capital.

"My husband is missing, he responds to the nickname 'El Tosco', he went out fishing three days ago since Saturday, along the coast of Habana del Este, by Playa del Chivo," Zaldívar indicated in the text shared on social media, accompanied by a photo of the missing young man and the precarious boat made of foam in which he set out to sea.

The woman pleaded for help from the fishermen: "If you see a rustic boat, like the one in the photo, please I ask you to inform the Maritime Captaincy at 107 or the PNR at 106. If you could share this, I would appreciate it. I am desperate."

In the comments on one of the shared posts, user Nahomy Velázquez stated that "the coast guards, Maritime Captaincy, the vessels that are on the coasts of Cuba are all aware and searching for them, but still nothing; today marks 48 hours since their disappearance."

Several people agreed in the posts that the weather conditions were not suitable this weekend for fishing, as the tropical storm Debby had just formed near the coasts of Cuba, threatening heavy rain and coastal flooding.

"On Saturday evening, I was with my husband on the Cojímar malecón and in the distance we saw a small fishing boat with two people... the sea was quite choppy. We said: what courage it takes to be back there with the sea so rough... God willing, they appear safe and sound," wrote an internet user.

In January, two fishermen - an adult and a child - from Cienfuegos were rescued alive after being missing for five days at sea.

After going out to fish, the strong swells and intense wind carried their boat off course, and they drifted until arriving at Cayo Cigua, south of the province of Matanzas, where they were found.

At the end of December, the 25-year-old fisherman David Castro Castillo disappeared on a beach in Santiago de Cuba. His wife Anurgis Pérez Ferrer reported the negligence of the authorities who did not go to rescue him in time.

In a rural community of the municipality of Vertientes, in Camagüey, two teenagers aged 14 and 16 drowned while fishing in a river.
