An animal shelter posted a unique announcement on social media for the adoption of a puppy, seeking someone who is not on parole, does not live in rental housing, has no allergies, and will not keep the dog on a rooftop.
Alexa Milena Durán Ruiz posted a message in the Facebook group "We Are Your Voice" explaining that the puppy had to be rescued before, but her brother was not as fortunate and was killed: "That's why we are looking for a special family that meets all the requirements so that Campanita can grow up very happy and surrounded by love."
In addition to looking for someone without parole who also does not live in rented accommodation, has no allergies, and does not place the dog on a rooftop, the animal rights advocate requested someone with "resources to take her to the veterinarian if needed, safe food, and who is very sure about the responsibility they are going to take on."
Additionally, she clarified that she is not the owner of Campanita, but she will assist in the adoption process, which will include an interview for those wishing to take the puppy home. She assured that they will be very strict during this process.
"We cannot afford to make mistakes," he noted. He also pointed out that those interested must be from Havana because there will be follow-up after the adoption.
The Cuban migration crisis has also impacted pets, who are often abandoned and, in the best cases, given up for adoption.
In June, animal protector Yenney Caballero raised concerns about a dog found at Havana's International Airport that was apparently waiting for the return of its family, who had left the country.
The activist sought help on Facebook to transport the dog from Terminal Three to the home of an animal rescuer, offering to cover the cost of the trip.
Also in June, Caballero herself reported on Facebook that the owners of a Siberian Husky puppy had left it locked up for three days in an abandoned house in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque.
In July, an internet user reported that a dog was abandoned at a bus stop in Havana, where it was left tied to a fence with a collar and its name written on a piece of cardboard. The animal has been rescued, and they are now looking for someone to adopt it.
"This little dog was abandoned early Saturday morning, wearing his collar and name tag. He was tied up at the stop we marked in green," explained Raisa Pérez Villaverde in the Facebook group "SOS Callejeros Cuba."
