The prominent Cuban wrestler Luis Alberto Orta, current champion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, will finally compete for the bronze medal in the 67-kilogram category of Greco-Roman wrestling in Paris, after winning in the repechage match.
Orta defeated the Algerian Ishak Chaiou by superiority 9-0 on Thursday morning and will seek the bronze medal against the Armenian Slavik Galstyan.
The good news comes after Luis Alberto Orta was unable to advance to the quarter-finals on Wednesday after being defeated by the Iranian wrestler Saeid Esmaeili, with a score of 0-9.
The defeat was a harsh blow for Orta, who arrived in Paris hopeful of defending his Olympic title. However, Esmaeili's superiority in the match left the Cuban with no chance to advance directly to the semifinals.
Orta had to wait for Esmaeili to reach the final in order to enter the fight for one of the bronzed medals.
At dawn on this August 8, Cuba remains in 21st place in the medal standings, after boxer Erislandy Álvarez won the second gold medal for the Cuban delegation on Wednesday.
