With his nth legendary performance, the Cuban Wilfredo León proved to be a true whip for the United States, and Poland advanced to the grand final of the men's volleyball at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Nicknamed "The King," León is one step away from touching glory with the country that welcomed him, after scoring a whopping 26 points and emerging victorious in an unforgettable match against the Americans.
The match lasted five sets, with tight scores of 25-23, 25-27, 14-25, 27-25, and 15-13. That said, it is worth highlighting that the tie break, a fierce battle without mercy or trenches, had a name: León.
For several seasons now, the player born in the province of Santiago de Cuba, considered a prodigy since his adolescence and his time with the national team of his homeland, is seen as the best volleyball player on the planet.
Thus, the Poles, who won gold at the Montreal 1976 Games, long to revive their laurels with a very talented generation.
Winning the title solely depends on beating the home team France, who will have the crowd on their side and is confident in the possibility of repeating (defending) their reign from Tokyo 2020.
In fact, the French are in optimal competitive form, something they demonstrated the day before by eliminating the powerful Italy in just three sets. Quite an achievement given the current level of men's volleyball.
