Father bids farewell to Cuban heading to the United States: "My son left on that plane."

Families have suffered divided by the communist regime for six decades. More than 106,000 Cubans have left the island with humanitarian parole since 2023.

A father shared the emotional moment when the plane carrying his son, a young man granted humanitarian parole, took off from Cuban territory.

"My son has already left on that lovely plane that goes straight to the United States of America," said the man.

The Cuban journalist residing in the United States, Daniel Benítez, shared the brief video. The identity of this father and his son has not been revealed.

"Another young person from Cuba who will enter the United States under humanitarian parole. This is how his father said goodbye. He had travel permission since June," Benítez said in his Facebook post.

This young man was close to not being able to emigrate, despite having all his documents in order. At the beginning of August, the U.S. government temporarily suspended travel permits for beneficiaries of the humanitarian parole program.

The measure was taken after an internal report revealing significant levels of fraud was made public, according to a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

They indicated that "as a precaution" they suspended the issuance of early travel authorizations for the program since mid-July.

The U.S. government is thoroughly reviewing the sponsors' applications, which is where the focus of fraud is placed.

The brief video of the Cuban father saying goodbye to his son has received numerous interactions and messages congratulating the Cuban for emigrating with humanitarian parole to the United States.

"Congratulations and blessings for your son. That’s how I saw my son leave twelve years ago, and I am still waiting to be able to hug him and kiss him one day," a mother confessed in the comments.

Data from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) indicates that more than 106,000 Cubans received approval to travel to the United States since the humanitarian parole program began in January 2023 until June 2024.
