An outbreak of food poisoning caused great concern in the municipality of Corralillo, Villa Clara, after 16 people, including several minors, showed symptoms of dehydration, diarrhea, and vomiting after consuming nationally produced condensed milk.
The product in question was distributed by the local Agricultural Company and came from the Dairy Company of Sagua, as explained this Thursday on social media by Dr. Juan José Pulido López, General Director of Health of Villa Clara.
The incident was initially reported when several affected individuals went to the polyclinic in the town of Corralillo, which led health authorities to issue an immediate alert.
The patients were transferred to the 'Mártires del 9 de Abril' hospital in Sagua la Grande, where they received medical care and, fortunately, all are out of danger. According to official sources, some of the patients have already been discharged.
In response to the situation, local authorities went to the site to supervise the actions, and warnings were issued for the public to avoid consuming the affected product. Additionally, according to Pulido López, samples of the product were sent to the provincial laboratory to determine the exact cause of the outbreak, although the results have not yet been confirmed.
In recent hours, journalist Roxana Sánchez Valera from Radio Sagua reported through her social media that all affected patients have been discharged and are at home in good health.
In addition, it was reiterated that no serious cases or fatalities have been reported due to the outbreak, information that circulated on social media and that the authorities denied. The incident is still under investigation to prevent future similar cases.
It is important for the population to stay informed through official sources and to avoid spreading rumors or unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic, the authorities warned, emphasizing the need to debunk any information suggesting the existence of a lethal outbreak and highlighting that the situation is under control.
In March, eight children from the municipality of Florencia in Ciego de Ávila suffered food poisoning at a party and had to be treated in emergency hospital facilities.
Doctor Nilka Pita Alemán, provincial director of Public Health, reported that it was pending to determine the food that caused the poisoning. "The samples were taken to our laboratories to be studied," she said.
The directive detailed that the patients arrived with dehydration caused by vomiting. All were admitted and later discharged from the hospital.
The minors were at a birthday party in the municipal seat of Florencia and had to be transported to the Roberto Rodríguez Provincial General Teaching Hospital in Morón. It was presumed that the poisoning was caused by some food they ingested at the celebration.
