Cuban-Spanish designer Elena Tablada has declined to become one of the candidates for Miss Universe Cuba 2024, as she refuses to be absent from her daughters' lives.
The 43-year-old model said in an interview for Y ahora Sonsoles that if she were chosen, she would have to spend a lot of time away from her daughters: "I can't be away from them for two months without having a plan in advance."
Elena had not been included in the list of 24 candidates to represent Cuba in Miss Universe 2024; however, she could have had a last chance as the public will be in charge of selecting the 25th contestant.
In his statements, he said that he regretted that this opportunity did not come at another time in his life, but the mere fact of having been one of the finalists he considers a learning experience.
The designer, born in Madrid but of Cuban parents, never imagined that when she entered the contest, she would be called, firstly because of her age, and also because she feels “very out of the standards of this type of beauty pageant.”
"Although I was not born in Cuba, I carry my Cuban identity as a flag," Elena assures, and it will continue to be so, even if she does not participate in this beauty pageant.
After 57 years, Cuba is participating in Miss Universe again; for several weeks, the 25 selected candidates will compete to represent the island in the international contest.
