Chilean President Gabriel Boric received this Monday at the Palacio de La Moneda the two Olympic medalists of the nation for Paris 2024: the Cuban-born wrestler Yasmani Acosta, who is now a nationalized citizen, and shooter Francisca Crovetto.

The Greco-Roman wrestler Acosta won the silver medal in the 130-kilogram division, after only losing in the final to his compatriot Mijaín López, who achieved his fifth crown at the Olympic event.

"This medal is not just mine, but all of yours," said the gladiator to the supporters in the Plaza de la Constitución.

Crovetto, for her part, went down in history as the first Olympic champion of the southern nation.

"What an honor and pride to receive you in the house of everyone, Francisca and Yasmani. You represent all our athletes who strive daily to uphold our colors," wrote Boric on the social network X.

The president was attentive to the performance of the Chileans in the Paris competition and even encouraged Acosta before his final match. “Tremendous Yasmani Acosta in Greco-Roman wrestling. Tomorrow all of Chile will be with you in the final!”

Both athletes managed to end a drought of Chilean medals that dated back to the Beijing 2008 edition, while also securing the first title for the country since tennis players Fernando González and Nicolás Massú achieved it in Athens 2004 as a pair, recalled the digital site Oncuba.

Acosta, who will receive $43,000 for his result, was one of the 21 Cubans who participated in the Paris event under different flags. The group achieved eight awards, including one gold medal, four silver medals, and three bronze medals.
