A sewer leak that had been contaminating and causing problems in Santiago de Cuba for over a week, and where children were playing, was finally repaired this Tuesday by the local government after a report was shared on social media.

The journalist Yosmany Mayeta noted on Facebook that "bringing the truth to light in a timely manner prevents a problem from escalating," emphasizing the importance of denouncing the regime's inaction through social media.

"Yesterday it was published, and today they are already resolving an issue reported over a week ago," he indicated, pointing out that the leak was on Independencia Street, between 4th and 5th, in the Sueño neighborhood.

This Monday, the journalist reported on social media that some children were playing near a sewage outlet. Despite being located just a few meters from the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, the regime had not taken measures to address it promptly.

According to Mayeta, the reporter stated that the break had been reported several days earlier, but the regime showed no interest, ignoring that children were playing in a street flooded with sewage water.

Additionally, the neighbors warned that the managers of the "Aguas Santiago" Water and Sewerage Company seemed to ignore the seriousness of the situation, not taking into account that both the Provincial Hospital and the Cardiocenter of the province are nearby, facilities that should be protected from this type of contamination.

Reports of unattended blockages by the government of Santiago de Cuba are becoming increasingly frequent, which causes sewage waters to continue posing a constant risk to the health of the population.

In June, some neighbors in Santiago de Cuba reported that they had been living with a blockage in the sewage system of the building for over a month.

According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada's revelation on Facebook, the outrageous situation is happening in Building 2 on Punta Gorda Road, in the Nuevo Van Van neighborhood, in the Altamira popular council.

The same situation was reported in May when the portal Diario de Cuba published a video on Facebook showing a huge trench open in the middle of the street, several dozen meters long, from which black water was emerging.
