Huge pothole swallows truck wheel in Pinar del Río: "A tiny little hole!"

The incident occurred in the middle of a downpour.

The driver of a truck in the city of Pinar del Río likely had the biggest shock of the day when a huge pothole "swallowed" the left front wheel of his vehicle this Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the middle of a downpour, which surely meant that the pothole was filled with water and the driver didn't realize the true dimensions of the "little pothole."

A witness who was driving in another vehicle in the area during the bad experience joked by describing the pothole as a "tiny little hole."

"A small pothole here in the city of Pinar..." wrote a user identified as Reinaldo alongside the images, published in the Accidentes Buses & Camiones Group.

In the images, it can be seen that a forklift was trying to assist the driver. However, in the comments on the post, several internet users pointed out that it would be easier to pull the truck backward.

"That's not a pothole, it's a tunnel that connects to the Isle of Youth," a user jokingly declared.

"A small truck for a big pothole"; "Is that a pothole or a pit? Speechless"; "It seems that the meteorite that caused it was small"; "A lunar crater on Earth"; "If a scooter falls into that hole, it will end up in the underworld"; "Is that a pothole or a lagoon?" other users pointed out ironically.

There were also those who saw in such a scene merely another piece of evidence of the disaster that Cuba is in every aspect.

"Eternal destruction of Cuba"; "Total disaster everywhere"; "If it were only in Pinar"; "We are progressing, it's very clear"; "That's another achievement of this beautiful revolution"; "This country is an immense pothole," concluded the most pessimistic.

This deterioration in the road infrastructure not only hinders vehicle transit but also represents a serious danger for drivers and pedestrians, contributing to the premature wear of vehicles that are already worn out, and increasing the risk of accidents.

Despite the complaints from citizens and isolated and intermittent efforts to repair them, the lack of resources and inefficient management have prevented a lasting solution to the problem.

The potholes are just the tip of the iceberg of the serious crisis that Cuba faces in terms of maintenance and urban development.

From time to time, creative "solutions" from neighbors go viral, frustrated by alerting about a problem that only gets the authorities' attention when someone dies as a result of an accident caused by a pothole.

In February of this year, it was reported that neighbors in the Cerro municipality in Havana planted two banana plants in a huge pothole located in the middle of a street.

Others choose to turn the enormous potholes in the neighborhood into natural pools, where the more daring and unsuspecting do not hesitate to cool off as soon as a good downpour gives them the opportunity.
