Fabio Lamar V., the suspect of having stabbed the Cuban teenager Yenifer Gómez several times this Tuesday, was captured in the evening at the residence of an aunt in the town of San Juan, Santiago de Cuba.
Yenifer, a young woman severely injured, is currently in critical condition at the Hospital Infantil Sur Dr. Antonio María Béguez César, popularly known as "La Colonia," after being stabbed multiple times by her ex-boyfriend in the house where she lived with her grandmother in the Nuevo Vista Alegre neighborhood, Santiago de Cuba.
After committing the crime this morning, Lamar fled the scene, local reporter Yosmany Mayeta reported on Facebook.
According to reports, the suspect was located after 6:00 pm thanks to the cooperation of the neighbors of an aunt of the individual named Luisa, who alerted the authorities about his whereabouts.
"Hello Yosmany, I am a neighbor from the San Juan area near the entrance of the Baseball Academy, and right now the boy who stabbed the minor is hiding here," an anonymous source told the reporter.
Shortly after, it was confirmed that the man "was captured a few minutes ago at his aunt Luisa's residence, in the locality of San Juan."
Yenifer, affectionately known as Yeni by her friends and family, has suffered multiple heart attacks since the incident, which has further complicated her already delicate health condition.
The pediatricians who are treating her have confirmed that her condition is extremely serious and remains under a reserved prognosis.
"She arrived here in a coma, but we were able to bring her out of it, and now she is undergoing surgery. Her health is very delicate," stated a hospital worker to Mayeta, who has been closely following the case.
A patrol car remained stationed outside the hospital while the alleged responsible party was at large.
Last year in Cuba, 110 people were tried for femicide – a term that the island's authorities refuse to use – 378 cases of sexual violence in 2023, and several women were left with injuries following attacks by their ex-partners.
