Hundreds of people responded to a post from the official portal Cubadebate from August 13, the birthday of the dictator Fidel Castro.
Amid the tributes that the communists held in Cuba to "celebrate" the date, the official press could not refrain from dedicating a congratulatory message.
"Fidel is a country. Today Fidel would be turning 98 years old, and his work is present in every corner of this country, which he left with deep contributions in health, education, science, culture, sports, and idiosyncrasy," said Cubadebate on its Facebook profile.
In the comments section, many Cubans agree that, indeed, Fidel's footprint is felt in every corner of a country where hunger, scarcity, dirt, and despair abound.
"Very true. His work today is reflected in every corner of the country filled with garbage, debris, illnesses, unsanitary conditions, theft by his relatives and lackeys, and an equal poverty among the rest of the population. Misery and poverty distributed equally," said an emigrant.
"Yes, they are right, it was a country, and since he robbed all the businesses -because expropriating is stealing- he destroyed the country, and what he and his corrupt henchmen left was a floating garbage dump in the sea, shattered dreams of everyone, and an entire country that continues to migrate because there is no future. That was the country," another stated.
"The only post from Cubadebate that I agree with: its presence is in every corner of the island turned into ruins," a woman from Houston pointed out.
"It is a country in the dark, full of sadness and needs," affirmed a woman from Camagüey.
"Fidel is a country immersed in misery, hunger, need, sadness, separated families, people dying from a lack of medicine, Cuba hurts a lot, it hurts me, may God place His mantle over my island," wished a Cuban resident in Hialeah.
"Look at the streets, look at the balconies of Havana, look at the thermoelectric plants, look at the family meals at dinnertime, look at the hospitals, the thousands of airplanes that leave full and return empty, the political prisoners and the rising deaths, that and many more things is Fidel," a person from Bayamo stated.
"A country made of firewood," emphasized another reader.
On Twitter, there are also many criticisms of the message from Cubadebate.
"The destructive work of the tyrant is present in every street and destroyed building, in every blackout, in every line, in every thug that watches over and represses his neighbors, in every dump, in every polluted river, in every unsanitary hospital, and in every school without teachers," detailed the user identified as "Cazador de Ignorantes 2."
"What a work, the destruction and hunger of the Cubans? That is a work, a communist dictatorship is the worst thing that can happen to a country, there are no food, no milk, no medications, no electricity, no transportation, no gas, no human rights, the police and the army mistreat their people," denounced another called Javier.
"Fidel is in every pothole, in every line, in every school and hospital falling apart, in every raft fleeing the dictatorship. In every emaciated and poorly nourished body, in every empty pharmacy, in every overcrowded prison, in every thug and censor, in every informant dying of hunger," detailed one identified as Armando.
