The star Cuban baseball player Yulieski Gurriel is having his best moment in the current season within the Major League Baseball (MLB) system, averaging .436 in August at the Triple-A level.

With the Gwinnett Stripers, a minor league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, Gurriel, considered one of the greatest players in the history of the island, hit his twelfth home run this Sunday in a season that has not yet seen him at the highest level.

Currently, the 40-year-old athlete is batting .302 AVG (281 at-bats - 85 hits), but according to what was published on the social network X by journalist Francys Romero, his statistics this month make him an interesting bet in the final stretch of the competitive period.

The first baseman and designated hitter has three home runs and 10 RBIs - in addition to the aforementioned average above .400 - reasons that the Braves could consider to promote him or even generate interest from other MLB organizations.

In 2023, Gurriel bid farewell to the Houston Astros, the team with which he spent the first seven seasons of his Major League career, before moving to the Miami Marlins franchise, with whom he played one season before transitioning once again.

With the Astros, the player won two World Series titles, a Gold Glove, and a batting title.

Gurriel, a native of Sancti Spíritus and a long-time member of the Cuban national team, defected along with his younger brother Lourdes Jr. (Arizona Diamondbacks) in the Dominican Republic in 2016.

From a young age, he showed great abilities, and his name comes up in many conversations when discussing the best Cuban players in history.
