Model Maecee Marie Lathers, 24 years old, was arrested and faced a judge in Miami-Dade County after being accused of causing a tragic accident in downtown Miami that resulted in two fatalities.

The incident, which occurred last weekend, generated shock within the community and brought attention to the reckless and dangerous behavior of the young woman, who has over 11,000 followers on Instagram.

According to the police report, Lathers, who resides in Miami Gardens, was driving a Mercedes-Benz sedan at high speed on North Miami Avenue Saturday morning when he ran a red light and collided with a black Range Rover.

The impact was so violent that both vehicles crashed into a third car, a Suzuki sedan, in which three people were traveling. According to Local 10, the accident resulted in the deaths of two occupants of the Suzuki: one passenger died at the scene, and the driver succumbed to injuries later at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Beyond the shock caused by the tragic accident, witnesses were outraged that Lathers attempted to walk away from the scene of the accident, a behavior that was interrupted by bystanders who stopped her and brought her back to the location.

The authorities noted that at the time of the accident, the young woman was under the influence of a substance known as "pink cocaine" or tusi, a mixture of ketamine commonly used at parties.

During her appearance in court, Judge Mindy Glazer described Lathers as "an absolute danger to the community" and expressed her dismay at the seriousness of the charges.

The judge found probable cause to charge her with eight serious offenses, including two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and ordered that she be placed under house arrest with a reduced bail of $140,000. Additionally, she was prohibited from driving any vehicle.

The prosecutors, for their part, have stated that they could file additional charges for homicide in connection with driving under the influence of controlled substances, once the results of the toxicology report are obtained.

Lathers, who was not authorized to drive because her license had been suspended since January, also faces the possibility of being considered a flight risk due to the severity of the charges.

The case has generated a strong public reaction, largely due to Lathers' behavior, who, as revealed, described herself on social media as a “d(o)pe in real life” and shared provocative images.

The gravity of the events has led to scrutiny over both his lifestyle and the possible legal consequences he faces due to this tragic accident. Meanwhile, Lathers remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, awaiting the next legal steps in his case.
