A two-year-old Cuban boy residing in Cárdenas, Matanzas, is in urgent need of help after suffering severe burns to his face in a domestic accident at his home last weekend.

The minor, named Giorvis Daniel Rodríguez, has severe burns on his face, neck, and chest and is hospitalized at the Pediatric Hospital of Matanzas.

In statements to the administrator of the Facebook group Fishing in Miami - who has been very moved by the case and has already sent help - the child's mother, Anni Rodríguez Sánchez, explained how the fatal accident occurred and emphasized that it was in no way negligence.

The woman explained that her home is very humble and that the platform - which is made of wood - was in very poor condition, which is why they decided to change it themselves. She says that when they removed the plywood, they found many ants and lit alcohol to burn them.

Apparently, poor handling caused the entire bottle to ignite and the flames shot out about six or seven meters, right where the child was.

The mother of the minor reports that she was even facing away at the moment it happened and that it was her husband who ran out upon seeing that the upper part of the child's body was on fire.

In addition to the injured child, who will turn three years old on September 5, the family has two other children: a seven-year-old boy and a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, who are very upset by what happened.

The woman mentioned that she is very worried because once the child is discharged - a moment that is still a long way off - he will need a series of ointments that are not available on the island: such as Cicatricure, Mederma, and the highest percentage sunscreen available, as he will not be able to be in the sun for a year.

Although the first images published on social media to report the case showed the severity of the burns, the child's mother explained that in the last two days he has improved a lot, that he is less swollen, that he opens his eyes, and that he even tries to drink by himself.

In addition to any help with supplies, diapers, or food, as well as the mentioned ointments, the family - which is religious - appreciates prayers for the speedy recovery of the minor.

In a more recent post, the mother expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the support they have been receiving and explained that the child is gradually improving.
