A total of 107,670 vehicles, of which 9,742 are in Havana, were registered in the national census of Armed Vehicles by Parts and Pieces (VAP) in Cuba that concluded on August 22.
The Provincial Transportation General Directorate of Havana informed on Facebook that the process was framed within the new regulations issued by the Ministry of Transportation (Mitrans), which aim to formalize the situation of vehicles assembled from parts throughout the national territory.
The process began on June 24, following the publication of Resolution 95 of 2024 in the Official Gazette, which establishes the "Procedure for the homologation of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers, assembled from parts and pieces."
This regulation offers a new opportunity for those who did not participate in the 2021 census, where 121,000 vehicles were presented and 109,000 were approved.
Most of the armed vehicles registered are motorcycles.
The census was conducted automatically and digitally through the platform www.vap.transnet.cu, available for 60 days from its start.
Although the portal no longer accepts new registrations, it remains active for inquiries related to already registered files, the authorities said.
Now that the census has concluded, the authorities will initiate a technical review phase, where property owners will be called individually to verify compliance with the established standards.
This process will be carried out according to the data provided by the users on the digital platform during registration.
This census and the subsequent phases of homologation aim to regularize the situation of thousands of vehicles in Cuba, ensuring that they comply with the safety and operational regulations established by Mitrans.
According to the regime, it is a crucial step towards the modernization and legalization of the vehicle fleet in the country, which faces significant challenges due to the diversity of vehicles assembled from different parts and pieces.
