A multiple accident that occurred this Saturday on the Vía Blanca caused material damage to a minibus, a refrigerated cargo truck, and a yellow Jeep used for passenger transport (boteo), whose driver had to be freed by firefighters after getting trapped inside the vehicle.
"Accident at the entrance of Boca Ciega. A yellow Jeep got stuck, the driver was trapped, they were trying to get him out. He was quite battered, but conscious," reported a user in the Facebook group ‘Accidentes Buses & Camiones’.
Another user who shared an image of the incident in the mentioned Facebook group stated that the accident had taken place "in the evening, along Vía Blanca, arriving at Guanabo."
"In the accident, there were three vehicles involved: a minibus, a gazelle with a thermal box, and the jeep. In addition to the fact that the jeep was going 'fast,' that curve is dangerous because the entrance to Boca Ciega is right in the curve. Those who don't know that area will hit whatever is in front of them," said an internet user in the comments on the post.
La Vía Blanca, one of the busiest roads in Havana, connects the capital with the municipality of Habana del Este. Traffic on this road is usually heavy, especially on weekends when many drivers head to the beaches located in this municipality. For that reason, accidents on La Vía Blanca are common.
In mid-July, an accident occurred on this road involving a Soviet-made Lada and an old bus, a Fiat from 1970, OM 306 Gran Luce, which for a long time was common to see on Cuban streets. The accident resulted in no harm to the lives of the occupants of the vehicles.
At the end of June, a vehicle was overturned on the barriers of the Vía Blanca, at the height of Boca Ciega, with no reported loss of human lives.
A serious accident that occurred on the Vía Blanca caused significant damage to two cars in mid-May, without any loss of human lives to mourn.
A Mitsubishi truck and a Soviet-made Volga collided at the intersection of Vía Blanca and San Benigno. Despite the dramatic nature of the incident, no serious injuries were reported.
The explosion of one of the front tires of a bus from the Provincial Transport Company of Havana (EPTH) caused it to veer off the road at the end of April. Fortunately, the accident, which occurred in Alturas de Boca Ciega, did not result in any loss of life.
Around the same time, users of the Facebook group "Accidentes Automovilísticos en Cuba" shared unusual images of an accident that occurred on the Vía Blanca, involving four cars in a chain collision.
