A public transport bus driver in Havana refused to transport a sick elderly woman and apparently will be sanctioned for his behavior.
Journalist Javier Gutiérrez recounted on Facebook what happened with the driver of a P11, which covers the route from El Vedado to Alamar, in response to a request to transport a very ill lady to the Enrique Betancourt Neninger polyclinic.
"Two stops away from the place where I was (speaking in terms of km), which did not affect the driver's route at all, and he, at the end of his words: 'Friend, I don't know what time I leave, the expedition gives me the time,' got into his copilot's seat, closed the door, and as I took two steps, he took off and left," he detailed.
According to the reporter, the initial post, which is no longer available on social media, generated great discomfort and discontent regarding the driver's attitude.
"The minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila himself read the publication and facilitated the complaint," he emphasized.
The director of Transportation in the province, Leandro Méndez Peña, sent his response regarding what he described as a "sad and inhumane position" of the company driver for failing to assist a woman with a critical health situation.
"Authorities from the PCC, the Government of Havana, and the Minister of Transportation himself have contacted us, as they share the indignation over what happened and demand an analysis. The difficult situation faced by the company is not related to mistreatment or a lack of human value in assisting a Cuban in need; it cannot only represent a driver in the technical sense, but rather a true public servant. We are already in contact with the management of the Alamar Bus Terminal to respond to what occurred," the message states.
"A wrongdoing cannot define the work of an entire Ministry or a sector; there are many who struggle against the current in the face of the difficulties we face today," he added.
