Six Cuban migrants detained in irregular transit through Guatemala.

Six migrants of Cuban nationality were detained by the National Civil Police of Guatemala (PNC) during an operation on one of the country's highways.

The arrest occurred in the La Felicidad neighborhood, Agua Blanca department, by police from the Jutiapa station, according to the PNC's report on their Facebook profile.

In the operation, Yurvin "N," 28 years old, and Camilo "N," 37 years old, were arrested, accused of human trafficking.

The Cubans, for whom no data was provided, were traveling aboard trucks P-477DTT and P-981KJC, along with eight migrants from Ecuador, three from Bangladesh, and one from Peru, India, and Turkey, respectively.

The migrants were assisted and transferred to the Guatemalan Migration Institute at the Agua Caliente border, Esquipulas, Chiquimula, the note adds.

This new arrest comes just a few days after agents from the General Inspectorate of the PNC dismantled a network of corrupt police officers linked to cases of extortion against migrants who use the country as a transit point to reach the United States, including several Cubans.

At the time of the arrest, the police had extorted nine migrants and were asking for 100 dollars from each one, local media reported.

At the end of July, the PNC arrested two Cuban migrants who, along with other foreigners, were traveling irregularly through Central American territory.

The capture took place at kilometer 181 of the Inter-American route, within the jurisdiction of Chiquimula.
