The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) is investigating a social media post that contained a possible threat directed at some schools in that county in South Florida.

The detectives from the Threat Management Unit of the BSO (TMU) and the Real Time Crime Center are collaborating with various law enforcement agencies to assess the threat, according to the BSO.

Although several schools were mentioned, none were specified, only that they were located in different cities of the county.

The Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) informed through X on the afternoon of this Saturday that they were aware of a threatening post that was circulating on social media.

Additionally, the BCPS notified parents about the ongoing investigation through an email.

A spokesperson for BSO explained that, according to Florida law, anyone who makes written threats to kill, cause bodily harm, or carry out a mass shooting can be charged with a felony.

In an update on the investigation released on the morning of this Sunday, the Broward County Public Schools reported an arrest made in connection with the case and stated that "there is no ongoing safety concern."

It is not the first incident of its kind in South Florida in recent days, as a student was arrested last Friday after making a threat of a shooting attack against Lamar Louise Curry Middle School on their social media, which is located in West Kendall, in Miami-Dade County.

The threat made by the young man to his classmates caused concern among parents and the school community. The alert arose after the young man posted a message on Instagram with the text: "Don't go to school tmr llcms," accompanied by an image of a firearm.

That post was taken seriously by the authorities, who were notified immediately by the school.
