The energy crisis in Cuba continues to produce shocking scenes, such as that of a family in Bayamo, including a child, sleeping outdoors in a desperate attempt to escape the sweltering heat.
Isis Ro shared on Facebook images depicting the ordeal of two individuals, including a small child, who were forced to sleep outdoors on what appears to be the floor or yard of a home due to power outages.
"That's how several children slept last night in Bayamo, and that's how they are being sent to school today," noted the person who posted on social media.
Strange as it may seem, this scene has played out in various cities across Cuba amid an energy crisis that shows no signs of resolution.
In May, a Cuban was captured at dawn while still asleep, having spent the night on a rooftop lying on what appears to be a mattress and covered by a mosquito net.
It's an ingenious initiative aimed at getting some sleep amidst the constant and unbearable blackouts that plague the population across the Island.
Others have chosen to sleep in doorways and on the sidewalks to alleviate the heat they experience due to the blackouts.
Journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada stated on Facebook that in Santiago de Cuba, many people are sleeping outdoors due to the constant power outages and the high nighttime temperatures.
And while this is the reality of Cuban households, the Ministry of Education awarded the Ministry of Energy and Mines for its supposed contribution to the integral development of the country's children and adolescents, despite complaints from Cuban parents about the damage caused to students by the energy crisis.
The recognition took place during an event held at the Central Pioneer Palace, commemorating the 45th anniversary of the institution, where the ministry was highlighted "for its contribution and support in the comprehensive development of children and adolescents in Cuba," according to a post on X from that department.
