A suspected thief was captured by neighbors of the Indaya neighborhood, in the municipality of Marianao, in Havana, and guarded until the police arrived.
A video shared on YouTube by the independent media outlet Cubanet showed the moment when the individual was cornered by several neighbors after allegedly having stolen from one of the houses in the settlement.
In the video, it is heard that the police took a long time to arrive, during which time the neighbors moved the alleged thief from where he was caught to one of the entrances to the settlement.
At no time is there any violence from the neighbors towards the detainee, who ultimately appears to be cooperative.
Situations like these are becoming common in the country. In June, in Santiago de Cuba, an alleged thief was captured by neighbors in the San Pedrito neighborhood, but they decided to release him because the police never showed up.
Residents in the city of Las Tunas captured a man who stole a cell phone from a house and had six other phones in his possession, which he allegedly also took that same day.
In Havana, a man was captured accused of snatching phones, beaten, and tied to a pole.
Meanwhile, a few days ago, residents of the Sevillano neighborhood in Diez de Octubre, Havana, caught a thief who entered several houses in the area to steal in broad daylight, according to a citizen report.
The individual was captured by local residents, who decided to act on their own, and they punched him in the face after discovering him, judging by the photos from a Facebook post.
