Neighbors welcome political prisoner released in Caibarién with balloons and hugs.

José Rodríguez Herrada staged several hunger strikes during his time in prison.

The Cuban political prisoner José Rodríguez Herrada received love from his family and neighbors in the municipality of Caibarién, where he resides, after being released by the Cuban regime, having fully served the sentence imposed after the protests on July 11, 2021.

Rodríguez Herrada was imprisoned for three years and two months, during which he maintained "a principled stance in prison," wrote the opposition member Librado Linares in the Facebook group "Revolico Camajuaní."

The political prisoner and demonstrator from July 11 in Cuba, Carlos Michael Morales Rodríguez, also released this year, shared moments from the welcome for Rodríguez Herrada, where decorations with balloons, hugs, and tears could be seen among those present at the time of the car's arrival.

For his part, Leonardo Rodríguez Alonso, coordinator of the Patmos Institute in central Cuba, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet the recently released individual.

"Today I was able to meet this brave Cuban and get to know each other personally. I share with you in an image memories of a moment of joy and nostalgia for those who remain behind bars, and I ask the Supreme to use His power in favor of Cuba and to put an end to this story of decrees, laws, prisons, systematic repression, blackouts, lack of medications, and massive exoduses," he wrote on his Facebook profile.

In 2022, Rodríguez Herrada began a hunger strike in the Santa Clara prison where he was detained, in protest against the "false accusations of the prosecution" regarding his participation in the protests of July 11.

A year later, he took the same action, along with 12 other political prisoners incarcerated in different locations, prior to the visit that year to the island by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell.
