Cubana details the costs of living in South Carolina: "We arrived from Cuba to here and I wouldn't change it for now."

Cuban in South Carolina details the high cost of living and the work challenges for migrants without English.

A Cuban woman living in South Carolina responded to a user who asked her about the cost of living in her state, sharing what she pays for her rent and cars in Irmo, where she resides.

According to Yaema Galguera (@yaemagalguera on TikTok), the rents for three-bedroom, two-bath houses range from 1,600 to 3,000 dollars per month, depending on the location and condition of the property. She herself pays 2,040 dollars for a three-bedroom, two-bath apartment, although this price only includes the apartment's insurance.

A relevant point that he mentions is the scarcity of jobs in the area, especially for those who do not speak English. "If you don't know English, your chances are even less," he warns.

In addition, the Cuban resident refers to state taxes and the costs associated with vehicles. Car insurance, she explains, is relatively cheap, but vehicle taxes are high. According to her testimony, she and her family pay 800 dollars annually for one of their cars and 700 for another in taxes.

Despite these challenges, the Cuban woman states that she has no intention of leaving the state, as she values the tranquility and the fact that her family, like many other Cubans, has been able to settle in South Carolina, where they even have a Cuban food company. However, she concludes with a reflection: "The possibilities are very few if you don't speak the language; it's a matter of luck."
