The Movement for Cuban Qualifications in Spain, together with the Association of Cuban Doctors in Spain, has organized a protest on September 25 in front of the Congress of Deputies in Madrid.

The demonstration, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, seeks to denounce the long delays in the recognition of Cuban university degrees, a process that, according to the Old Royal Decree 967/2014 and the New Royal Decree 889/2022, should be resolved in six months, but is currently experiencing delays of up to five years, reported La Razón.

Thousands of health professionals and others from all continents, including Spanish citizens, graduates from universities in Cuba, suffer this "serious discrimination" for an average of two to three years.

The protest also aims to denounce the "arbitrary shutdown" of the processes for the recognition of degrees from Cuba for the past year, "justified by a review at source by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities," the cited news portal pointed out.

This demonstration is preceded by the recent demand from the Health Counselor of the Community of Madrid, Fátima Matute, who requested greater "promptness" from the ministries of Education and Health of Spain in the process of validating degrees for Cuban doctors.

During a meeting with representatives of the Association of Cuban Doctors in Spain, the counselor emphasized that the doctors trained on the island have been fighting for several years for the recognition of their university degrees, which they claim is significantly delayed, according to a report from the Spanish newspaper ConSalud.

This problem is not new, as last April, a group of doctors from different countries residing in Spain demonstrated in front of the Congress of Deputies in Madrid to demand faster processing of the recognition of their university degrees.

The call was led by the "Cuban Equivalency Movement in Spain," "Fair Equivalency Now," the "Cuban Doctors Association in Spain," the "Spanish Federation of Doctors," as well as several unions and non-governmental organizations, reported the media outlet Árbol Invertido.
