The United States Coast Guard repatriated 22 Cuban migrants on Tuesday, following two separate interdictions south of the Florida Keys.

Through the social network X, it was announced that the crew of the ship Pablo Valent returned the rafters to the island.

The operations were carried out after agents from the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBPAMO) detected the migrants during routine aerial patrols over the Florida Straits.

The message states that the government of the United States reiterates the danger of attempting to cross the sea under precarious conditions, urging migrants not to risk their lives in the ocean. This type of operation aims to prevent tragedies and discourage irregular migration by sea.

In the face of the growing economic crisis in Cuba, more and more citizens are taking to the sea in search of better opportunities, risking their lives on dangerous journeys.

The dangerous maritime crossing to the United States has claimed the lives of at least 142 migrants so far in 2024, according to a report from the Missing Migrants Program of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
