The proximity of Hurricane Helene to the province of Pinar del Río caused a power outage on Wednesday in the line supplying the Guanito transmitter, leaving a large part of the area without radio and television signals.

Journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso reported on Facebook that the malfunction affected the transmission plant, and the failure of the generator worsened the situation, preventing the restoration of service.

It was reported that several entities are working to activate the generator and restore the signal while the damaged electrical structure is being repaired.

The proximity of Hurricane Helene to the province of Pinar del Río has brought heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and flooding.

However, according to the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), in its latest Tropical Cyclone Advisory, this situation could worsen in the coming hours.

Intense rains have led to minor flooding in some areas, mainly along the southern coast. In Cabo de San Antonio, the westernmost point of the country, waves have been recorded reaching heights between three and five meters.

The Electric Company of Pinar del Río has already announced that it will not address any outages caused by Hurricane Helene until the storm has passed.

The entity reported that since early this morning, the municipalities of San Juan and Martínez, Guane, Mantua, Sandino, and Minas de Matahambre have been without electricity.

Despite this, he noted that when a hydrometeorological event occurs, it is established that if the circuits fail, they will not be reactivated until the phenomenon has passed.
