A total of 35 electric tricycles, operating on two new routes, began service this Monday in Havana with an experimental schedule from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The company Taxis-Cuba announced on Facebook that this new service will be evaluated based on the battery life of the tricycles, with the aim of determining its long-term viability and sustainability.

He also explained that each route will have 10 tricycles, the first one running from the Clinical Hospital on 26th Street to the intersection of 23rd and 26th Streets, and the second route going from that point to Coppelia, located at the intersection of 23rd and L Streets.

The published notice stated that the route along Línea Street, which previously ended at the Focsa building, has been extended to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital, thereby improving access to transportation in the city.

Finally, the company reported that the cost of the service is 10 pesos per passenger, similar to that of other operating routes.

In September, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, the Minister of Transportation, stated on Facebook that the addition of these 35 electric tricycles would enable the implementation of two new routes, in an effort to alleviate the severe passenger mobility crisis affecting Havana.

Rodríguez recently announced that the fleet of electric tricycles for public passenger transportation in Havana has expanded with the addition of 35 new vehicles, which will join the 118 already operating in the city.

He noted that currently these media outlets operate 17 routes across eight municipalities.

Amid soaring inflation and a public transport crisis on the island, the Cuban regime announced that starting August 15, the cost of electric tricycle services in the capital would increase to 10.00 CUP per passenger.

This decision, communicated by the General Directorate of Transportation of Havana, marked a significant increase from the initial price of 4.00 CUP that was set when the service began in 2020.
