The renowned Cuban actress Diana Rosa Suárez, known for her outstanding career in theater and television, is in the process of recovery in Guyana after suffering a heart attack that went undetected during recent tests conducted in Havana.
The news was confirmed to our outlet by a person close to the actress, who claims she is on absolute rest on a second floor.
Last Saturday, the artist had severe chest pain in Havana and was taken to the Instituto de Cardiología hospital, but despite having undergone two electrocardiograms, the doctors did not detect the problem.
The actress subsequently traveled to Guyana, where local doctors confirmed that in addition to this heart attack, she has another one that is believed to have occurred about three months ago, and they recommended a month of complete rest.
Diana Rosa Suárez, known for her iconic roles as "The Fox's Bride" and other memorable characters, was in Guyana to attend an appointment at the United States embassy to apply for a visa that would allow her to reunite with her grandchildren and nieces abroad.
The person taking care of her reported that her interview appointment is on Wednesday, but the actress will not be able to attend because she should not be moved. The doctors said it was not advisable to move her even to transfer her to an intensive care unit, because it could be risky to take her down two floors, she explained.
"It cannot have strong emotions and must follow a strict diet," the source pointed out.
Sports journalist Julita Osendi explained that the Ministry of Culture of Cuba is already aware of the situation and has promised to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Health so that the actress can be seen by the doctors from the island who are on a mission in Guyana, before she returns to Havana.
On August 30, Diana Rosa Suárez celebrated her 80th birthday with a big party surrounded by friends and colleagues, such as Tahimí Alvariño, Paula Alí, Verónica Lynn, Néstor Jiménez, Mario Aguirre, Héctor Noas, Miriam Socarrás, and Gretel Cazón, as well as the presenter Marino Luzardo and the singers Beatriz Márquez and Héctor Tellez.
Diana Rosa was born in the Luyanó neighborhood of Havana and is the grandmother of two granddaughters who live in the United States.
