Justina Montes de Oca has reached the age of 101, having lived the last 18 years in a nursing home in the municipality of San Luis, Santiago de Cuba.

Her story was shared this Tuesday by the Provincial Health Directorate of Santiago de Cuba through its Facebook profile, highlighting that the centenarian lady, a resident of the Clodomira Acosta Senior Citizens Home, has found the key to her longevity in living with joy.

"I don't like to be bitter. Why? Life is pure love and should be enjoyed," commented the descendant of mambises, who, according to household workers, has left a deep mark on all those who know her.

Those who look after her health emphasize that the lady, at 101 years old, "continues to dance, sing, and recite poems with boundless energy."

However, not all elderly people in Cuba are so fortunate, as many must work to survive and sometimes even live in conditions of begging.

Recently, an elderly man was seen sleeping in the open in the village of Potrerillo, Cienfuegos province, while he awaited a house that had been promised to him.

User Yamil Cuéllar raised the alarm on the social network Facebook about the situation of Leonardo Pérez Valdés, alias Menéndez, who also suffered from cerebral ischemias that have left him almost in a state of prostration.

In April, the internet user Irma Broek reported on Facebook the precarious situation of Juan, an elderly Cuban living in the town of La Gloria, in the municipality of Campechuela, Granma.

According to the complaint, Juan lived in inhumane conditions: sleeping on palm leaves in a shelter that was on the verge of collapse, with a dirt floor and no furniture or basic utensils.
