Neighbors capture and hand over a horse thief to the police in Santiago de Cuba.

Other reports indicate that in recent weeks more than seven horses and other animals have been stolen in the area.

Residents in the Santa María neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Santiago de Cuba, captured a horse thief on their own and turned him over to the police.

"We were able to catch this one, but another escaped with two more horses," wrote an anonymous source to the independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.

Along with his post, the communicator shared a video in which the residents of that neighborhood can be seen handing over the criminal to the police.

In the clip, one of the police officers can be heard saying that they have apparently been tracking these thieves since Guantánamo.

In the early hours of Friday, residents of the El Caney neighborhood, also on the outskirts of Santiago de Cuba, captured another horse thief only for the police to release him a few hours later.

According to a neighbor's account to Mayeta Labrada, the residents started watching the thieves and managed to catch the individual while he was trying to steal a mule. He was with other bandits, but they were able to escape.

Other reports indicate that in recent weeks, more than seven horses and other animals have been stolen in the area.
