Florida International University (FIU) has risen in the university rankings, placing for the first time among the 50 best public universities in the United States, occupying the 46th position, and 98th in the overall ranking of public and private universities, according to the important annual ranking by News and World Report.
FIU has improved 18 positions among public universities and 26 in the overall ranking in the last year, reflecting its investment in educational innovation. The report also notes that three universities in Florida are among the top 50: University of Florida (UF), Florida State University (FSU), and the University of South Florida (USF).
The president of FIU, Kenneth A. Jessell, emphasized that Miami-Dade is now part of an exclusive group of metropolitan areas with more than one university among the top 100. "A few years ago, we made the strategic decision to invest in finding innovative ways to help our students succeed, and in doing so, we have created a leading American university," he highlighted.
This university also achieved first place nationally in social mobility, a category that evaluates the ability of graduates to leverage their degrees at the beginning of their careers and improve their economic position.
This summer, FIU was named "Preeminent State Research University" by the Florida Board of Governors, consolidating its position as a leader in research and academic performance. Its inclusion in the top 50 reinforces the university's reputation and the academic and economic image of the Miami-Dade region.
FIU has strategically invested in innovations to enhance student success, becoming a leading institution. Its international business program has maintained the second national position for six consecutive years. Additionally, it has improved in several areas such as Engineering, Nursing, and Psychology, and holds prominent positions in innovation rankings, price-quality ratio, and support for veterans. With over 56,000 students and 300,000 graduates, FIU continues to strengthen its impact in the region.
"Our success is largely due to the support of Governor Ron DeSantis and the state legislature, as well as the focus of the board and the leadership of the university in elevating FIU. We are now among the top 50 universities in several important rankings, and that is a direct reflection of the excellent education and the consequential research being carried out at FIU," said the chairman of the board of the university center, Roger Tovar.
