"Luxury" apartment for sale in an iconic building in Havana with areas at risk of collapse.

An advertisement in the Facebook group "Sale of Houses and Apartments in Havana" has sparked the curiosity of many Cubans by offering a "luxury" apartment in the Hermanas Giralt building on 23rd Street in El Vedado.

Facebook user Zabdiel Guerrero García claims that the apartment has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a modern kitchen, a spacious living room, and a large dining room.

The glass windows offer a privileged view of El Vedado that ends with the sea on the horizon line. The terrace promises to be the ideal place to enjoy the Havana landscape while having a coffee.

The sale price includes the furniture. Additionally, the apartment has a garage and elevator, attractive features for those who wish to live in one of the most central areas of the Cuban capital or dedicate this property for a temporary rental business to tourists.

The most interesting thing about this beautiful apartment is that it is in a famous building in Havana that frequently makes headlines in the press due to its deterioration, with citizen complaints about having areas at risk of collapse.

In 2022, a Cuban shared images showing the warning signs that indicate to neighbors where not to stand in order to avoid being hit by pieces of the building that frequently fall.

The "luxury" apartment is on the 19th floor and is priced at 125,000 USD. The potential buyer should take into account what it means to arrive home tired, on a blackout night in Havana.

There have been no reports about repair processes in that building recently. Despite everything that may be said about the property, it is true that it attracts potential buyers due to its location and unique characteristics.

The building began construction in 1958, as a project by architect Oscar Fernández Tauler for the Territorial Vazarta, S.A. company. It was completed by the INAV, directed by Pastorita Núñez, and was inaugurated in 1961.

The tower was named Hermanas Giralt in honor of the deceased Cristina Alicia Giralt and María de Lourdes Giralt, members of the Civic Resistance in Cuba who were murdered on June 15, 1958, during the struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. These brave Cuban women never lived in that building.
