Forces from the Ministry of the Interior and the Fire Department extinguished a fire that started on the morning of this Sunday at the La Francia Moderna store, belonging to the CIMEX S.A. corporation, Cienfuegos branch, located on the central boulevard of the city.
The quick action of both the store employees and the firefighters helped prevent any loss of life or injuries. However, the incident has caused significant economic losses, reported the government-aligned newspaper Cinco de Septiembre on Facebook.
According to preliminary reports, the cause of the fire appears to have been a short circuit in an air conditioning unit; however, the note stated that authorities continue their investigations to confirm this hypothesis and clarify the details of the incident.
In addition, it was indicated that the fire was prevented from spreading to nearby homes, which could have further worsened the situation.
According to the Facebook profile "Alejandro Noticias Cuba," the fire started "around 7:45 AM at the store located on the boulevard of Cienfuegos."
Among the shared images, a large number of products can be seen, mainly canned goods, which were completely burned by the flames of the fire.
The internet user Flexon Artista, on Facebook, shared a video where firefighters can be seen extinguishing the fire.
"The alarm was sounding in the early morning when I passed by here," he indicated.
The official telecenter Perlavisión, also on Facebook, shared some images of the incident: "A fire of moderate proportions has been extinguished that occurred on the morning of this Sunday at the La Francia Moderna store. There were no injuries, damages are being assessed, and the causes are being investigated."
Recently, a fire broke out at the headquarters of the publishing house of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cuba, located at Zanja Street No. 352, corner of Escobar, in Central Havana.
In September, a fire in Old Havana caused by the explosion of a motorbike left one Cuban dead and several damages to the house located on Picota Street 59, between Acosta and Jesús María.
