The legendary Cuban athlete Javier Sotomayor, considered one of the greatest in world sports, celebrates his 57th birthday this Sunday filled with joy, gratitude, and surrounded by the love of his family and supporters.

The world record holder in high jump (2.45 meters outdoors and 2.43 indoors) has received multiple congratulations from different corners of the planet, as noted in statements to the digital site JIT.

"Since before midnight, congratulations started to arrive from friends and followers, even from many I don't know personally, but who wanted to send me their good wishes," said the one born in Limonar, Matanzas.

“El Soto,” the only human who has managed to surpass 2.45 solely with the effort of his legs—who also possesses exquisite and elegant technique—is undoubtedly a beloved and admired figure, both on and off the track.

"I am happy and proud because, after so many years of having retired, so many people still remember me with joy," added the Olympic champion in Barcelona 1992 and silver medalist in Sydney 2000.

With a brilliant career that includes several world titles (two outdoors and four indoors) and Pan American championships, the equally called "Prince of the Heights" has many reasons to celebrate.

Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER), shared an emotional message on his X account to honor him.

"World record holder outdoors and indoors. Olympic monarch and owner of all titles in love for #Cuba and a humility never tarnished by his greatness. Prince of Heights. King of Commitment to his People. Congratulations on your birthday, Javier Sotomayor!" wrote Vento.

“El Soto,” also established as an entrepreneurial man with his Bar 2.45 in the Havana municipality of Playa, is celebrated among the best athletes in the history of the Caribbean island, the birthplace of many legends.
