Camagüeyana denounces abandonment by her husband with cancer: “The government's lack of interest is criminal.”

A Cuban woman denounced on social media this Monday the critical situation she faces with her husband, who has been suffering from throat cancer for a year and in recent months has received treatment at the María Curie Oncology Hospital in Camagüey.

Dolores Nieves recounted in the Facebook group "Revolico Guáimaro" the daily difficulties they face due to constant blackouts, lack of water, and the indifference of the government, a neglect that, she claims, severely impacts sick individuals, like her husband.

Nieves explained that power outages lasting more than eight hours make it difficult to prepare the special foods that her husband needs due to his condition of dysphagia, which prevents him from swallowing properly.

In addition, he denounced the lack of response from local authorities, labeling the abandonment and treatment that citizens receive as "criminal."

"It is unfair that we are treated like animals, lacking rights, and that we have nowhere to turn for solutions," she pointed out.

In her complaint, she also criticized the Association of Combatants, of which her husband was a member, because "they have never had the decency to at least ask 'how is your health,'" she added.

Finally, the woman expressed her frustration with the system and stated that she will not participate in elections or constituency assemblies again, as she believes they do not provide real solutions to the problems they face.

In Cuba, people suffering from illnesses and their families must face multiple difficulties, ranging from the scarcity of medications, the lack of medical personnel, and the precarious conditions in hospitals, to power outages, inflation in food prices, and a widespread economic crisis.

In September, the father of the Cuban child Jorge Esteban Reina Llerena, who suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, questioned the government for spreading his story in official media, distorting everything.

Jorge Reina Pallarols shared a post on his Facebook profile, where he describes the attitude of the leaders towards all the efforts he has made to save his son's life as "disgusting."

However, the Cuban regime insists on its idea that the United States embargo prevents it from importing medical equipment and necessary medications for cancer treatment, a justification that has been refuted on several occasions with data by the government of that country.

The one responsible for raising the discourse of the "blockade" as the cause of the lack of medical attention for Cubans was the Deputy Prime Minister, Inés María Chapman Waugh, who had no qualms about blaming the United States for the deficiencies of the Island's Public Health system, which is practically collapsed due to the lack of investments from a regime that prioritizes the construction of hotels for international tourism over the welfare of its citizens.
