In 2023, due to the energy crisis, the Cuban government decided to suspend the so-called accountability assemblies.

This type of measure reflects the deepening energy crisis the country is experiencing, with several cities reporting power outages of up to 20 hours a day in recent days.

The Electric Union (UNE) has forecasted a critical day of blackouts in Cuba for this Thursday, with a record impact estimated at 1,678 MW.

On the other hand, Cuba's Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz will make an emergency appearance tonight on Cuban Television to discuss the serious energy situation facing the island, as announced by the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Through the social network X, Díaz-Canel indicated that he had instructed Marrero Cruz, along with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, to "inform the public about the energy emergency situation the country is facing."

The UNE stated in its daily report that unit 5 of the Nuevitas thermoelectric plant, unit 2 of the Felton thermoelectric plant, unit 4 of the Energas Varadero, and unit 3 of the Renté thermoelectric plant are out of service.

They mentioned that units 2 of the Santa Cruz power plant, 4 of the Cienfuegos power plant, and 5 of the Renté power plant are currently under maintenance.
