Juan Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of Cuba, stated this Thursday the suspension of all administrative activities in the municipal assemblies and independent departments due to the energy crisis affecting the country.

The Municipal Assembly of People's Power in Centro Habana announced on Facebook that the accountability meetings, scheduled for this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, will be held starting Monday, October 21, 2024.

In 2023, also due to the energy crisis, the Cuban government decided to suspend the so-called accountability assemblies.

This type of measure reflects the deepening energy crisis that the country is experiencing, with several cities reporting power outages of up to 20 hours a day in recent days.

The Electric Union (UNE) has warned of a critical day of blackouts in Cuba this Thursday, with a record estimated impact of 1,678 MW.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, will appear emergency-style tonight on Cuban Television to talk about the serious energy situation that the island is facing, according to the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Through the social network X, Díaz-Canel indicated that he had instructed Marrero Cruz, along with executives from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, to "inform the people about the energy emergency situation that the country is going through."

The UNE stated in its daily report that unit 5 of the Nuevitas CTE, unit 2 of the Felton CTE, unit 4 of Energas Varadero, and unit 3 of the Renté CTE are damaged.

They mentioned that unit 2 of the Santa Cruz CTE, unit 4 of the Cienfuegos CTE, and unit 5 of the Renté CTE are under maintenance.
