The first effects of Hurricane Oscar are already being felt in the city of Baracoa, Guantánamo, with the sea entering and flooding the seawall.

The internet user Zé Niel shared a video on Facebook that captures the fury of the raging sea, with waves already hitting the seawall and causing the first breaches and flooding along the coastline of the city of Baracoa, Guantánamo.

"Look what’s coming!" is heard from the person who filmed the video, while showing how the sea was already reaching the houses closest to the seawall.

Since Saturday evening and the early hours of Sunday, vulnerable communities have been urged to take measures and evacuate due to the risk of sea incursions and flooding caused by heavy rains.

The internet user Zé Niel himself shared a video on Facebook showing a car with a speaker announcing the evacuation of a community in Baracoa due to the imminent arrival of Hurricane Oscar.

“Attention, attention! A hurricane is approaching. This community will be evacuated, everyone must cooperate,” is the message broadcasted by the jeep with a loudspeaker.

Similarly, Chely Tamayo shared some images on Facebook showing the intense rains that were already hitting the Guantanamo municipality of Maisí.

Hurricane Oscar is approaching the eastern part of Cuba with tropical storm winds that could reach between 101 and 119 km/h, according to the latest report from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

It is estimated that these winds will begin to affect the region this Sunday in the afternoon, around 2:00 PM, intensifying throughout the night and into the early hours of Monday.

The provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, and the eastern parts of Holguín are the areas most vulnerable to this weather event. Municipalities such as San Antonio del Sur, Caimanera, Contramaestre, Palma Soriano, Mayarí, Antilla, and the coastal areas around Guardalavaca are expected to experience the most intense conditions.

In light of the advance of Hurricane Oscar and its imminent contact with the Eastern region of Cuba, the country's authorities declared the alert phase for the province of Camagüey, and the informational phase for Ciego de Ávila.

"Alert Phase established for the province of Camagüey and informative phase for Ciego de Ávila," reported on his social media by the official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso.

Previously, the Cyclonic Alert Phase had been declared for the provinces from Las Tunas to Guantánamo.
