On Monday, October 21, 2024, Cuban activists in Spain organized a vigil in Plaza Callao in Madrid under the slogan "Let’s Light Up Cuba".

The event, which took place at 10:00 PM, was called to denounce the repression faced by the Cuban People and to show solidarity with the victims of the humanitarian crisis that the island is experiencing, marked by constant blackouts and a lack of basic services such as electricity, drinking water, and food.

Among those present were recognized activists such as Junior García, María Matienzo, Yanelys Núñez, Luz Escobar, Carolina Barrero, Adrián Martínez Cádiz, Camila Rodríguez, Leonardo Fernández Otaño, Manuel A. Rodríguez Yong, and Magdiel Jorge Castro, among others.

The vigil was attended by a large number of people who, although not named in this text, joined in the call for human rights and freedom in Cuba.

Call for the Vigil in Madrid

During the demonstration, participants raised their voices to demand an end to the dictatorship on the island and to call for the release of political prisoners.

They also pointed out the serious situation facing Cuba, with an energy crisis affecting millions of people and a political repression that continues to pursue those who dare to criticize the regime.

The event was documented with photographs and videos, some of which were shared on social media, providing a visual testimony of the supportive atmosphere and the outrage at the current situation in Cuba.

The organization of this vigil is part of a series of demonstrations in various cities around the world aimed at drawing attention to the severe crisis on the island and mobilizing the international community to take action, remove the regime from power, and lead Cuba towards true democracy.
