The tragedy continues after Hurricane Oscar passed through the Cuban province of Guantánamo, where rescue efforts are ongoing in search of entire families that have gone missing, according to reports from residents.

According to Martí Noticias, the brigades are trying to locate individuals in the municipalities of San Antonio del Sur and Imías, who are missing after the mudslides and the rising of rivers and dams.

In a report for the mentioned media, activist Emilio Almaguer informed from Baracoa that the Cajobabo bridge collapsed, leaving entire communities isolated. "It is impossible to reach Imías and San Antonio. The situation is critical, the river has flooded the entire area," he expressed.

So far, authorities continue the search for people swept away by the floods, while survivors face a harsh reality: without electricity, food, or drinking water.

Yamilka Lafita, an activist from Havana, is desperately seeking news about her brother and nephew, who have been missing since Sunday. "They were helping neighbors escape when the waters engulfed them. No one came to rescue them at the critical moment," she lamented.

Miguel Ángel López Herrera, also an activist in Guantánamo, confirmed that military helicopters were flying over the region, but the authorities have not yet provided the official number of missing persons, although the death toll has already risen to seven.

The devastation caused by Hurricane Oscar has left a trail of destruction and despair in the most vulnerable areas of eastern Cuba, where entire families have still not been located.
